Located in the Northwestern corner of Connecticut, Litchfield is an outdoor paradise in many ways with its rolling hills, abundant farms, rivers, and glorious gardens. The Litchfield Garden Club takes seriously its responsibility to protect and preserve this rural landscape. The Conservation Committee is charged with arousing the interest of the Club and the community to the importance of conservation and the dangers of neglecting our environment. In pursuit this educational mission, the committee has undertaken many community activities.

The Garden History & Design Committee interacts with all LGC committees in developing creative joint programs that further the understanding of garden history and design.  Increases awareness of the importance of historic and contemporary landscapes and gardens. Provides the LGC archives with copies of all materials submitted to the Smithsonian.
Nothing gives us more joy that puttering around in our own backyards.  Whether growing delphiniums from seeds, cultivating dahlias, raising orchids or planting daffodils, we are passionate about our plants. There is history in every potting shed, barn and greenhouse. Some of the structures are weathered and aged; others have become seasoned with stories of seeds started there year after year.  These are the shelters that house our hopes.  Our heirloom tomatoes, tiny red peppers and fledgling herb gardens testify to the ceaseless underground energy that can’t wait til spring to sprout.
